We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

Job Title: Professor/Associate/Assistant Professor/Instructor of Economics
Location:
Yola
Department: School of Arts and Sciences
Duration: 2/3 Years Renewable (Full Time)

Summary of Position

  • The candidate contributes to preparing students to be applied, critical thinkers and problem solvers through innovative teaching and research.
  • S/he will work closely with the Dean of the school in formulating and implementing course structures that would translate to effective teaching and learning of courses in line with the development philosophy of the American University of Nigeria.
  • Asides the teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the department’s administration and scholarly work by carrying out and disseminating high quality research.
  • The post-holder will possess a PhD in Economics from a reputable university, specialize in monetary economics or macroeconomics (with an interest in African economic issues) and also be able to teach finance as well as money & banking.
  • Relevant teaching and research experience and knowledge of relevant VLE technologies are required.
  • Appointment at the professor and associate professor cadre will be commensurate with expected teaching and scholarly experience of candidates.
  • We will also consider strong applications from recent PhD graduates at the Assistant Professor cadre.
  • Candidates applying for the Instructor position will have a Masters Degree in Development Economics from a reputable university in addition to a Bachelors degree in Economics.
  • Candidates should possess a strong record of academic publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage. International experience is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required. The right candidate must have a strong command of English language.

Detailed Listing of Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare and deliver teaching in economics courses, especially monetary and financial economics modules, to undergraduate and post graduate students.
  • Conduct research and publish papers in rigorous peer-reviewed journals.
  • Promote the department’s research and scholarly activities by presenting research findings in seminars and conferences.
  • Supervise research projects.
  • Tutor and mentor students.
  • Lead or be part of other committees aimed at promoting research, curriculum development, staff welfare etc.
  • Contribute to AUN’s community service and development.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Requirements for the Position

  • PhD in Economics with a specialization in monetary economics, macroeconomics or finance.
  • An outstanding teaching and research record commensurate with career stage.
  • Experience in problem centered approach to teaching and learning.
  • Record of publication in peer-reviewed economics journals.
  • Candidates applying for the Instructor position must have a Master’s Degree in Economics (with a focus on Development Economics) in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

  • Experience of working in Africa
  • Experience of curriculum development
  • Experience of organizing conferences and workshops
  • Experience of developing research proposals for externally funded projects.

Job Title: Senior Internal Auditor

Department: Internal Audit

Summary of Position

  • The senior internal auditor is charged with the responsibility of providing a wide range of financial, compliance, and operational audits, business advisory and consultation services, investigations, internal control structures, accountability, and use of resources. Work is performed within policies included in state and federal law of Nigeria and administrative regulations of the University with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and subject to periodic review on the basis of results achieved.
  • The incumbent is under the general direction of the Director of Internal Audit.
  • The duties shall also include but not limited to ensuring that the transactions of the university are in accordance with specific rules and regulations in force so that there are no cases of unauthorized payments, loss, extravagance or avoidable expenditure.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree/HND in Accounting or other Business related discipline from a reputable tertiary institution;
  • Membership of any professional accounting bodies like ICAN, ANAN, CPA, ACCA etc. plus 4+ years’ experience in internal auditing, statutory auditing or accounting,
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office, database management experience required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both oral and written.
  • Capacity to prioritize by assessing situations to determine urgency.

Other requirements, abilities for the position:

  • Must be detailed oriented, well organized and be able to handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Data entry experience necessary.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of manager, clients, customers, and the general public.

Job Title: Driver
Location:
Yola
Department: Facilities Management

Summary of Position

  • Duties include operating and maintaining transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and customer courtesy.
  • Operates and maintains assigned vehicle(s).
  • Maintains vehicle records.
  • Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Ensures that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported.
  • Prepares trip reports, accident and incident reports.
  • Assists passengers in and out of the vehicle.
  • Provides safety briefing to passengers; and providing other services as requested by management when not engaged in transportation service.

Position Requirements

  • High school and acceptable Experience and Training or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, provided the age and safe driving record requirements are met.
  • Class “E” Nigerian driver’s licence.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 and maximum of 40 years of age in addition to a safe driving record;
  • Must also be available to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately, including ability to read and interpret road signs in English;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish effective professional relationships with customers, co-workers, and upper level staff and employees;
  • Ability to prepare concise and accurate records and reports;
  • Extensive knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s);
  • Ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs;
  • Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs;
  • Skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions;
  • Ability to administer First Aid and CPR.
  • Must be able to pass Department of Transportation physical exam and successfully complete an Alcohol/Drug screening process.
