The Fistula Care Plus (FC+) project is a five-year cooperative agreement, funded by the United States Agency for International Development and managed by EngenderHealth in collaboration with partners. It seeks to increase access to quality treatment services for obstetric fistula, improve prevention, strengthen the environment to support prevention, treatment and reintegration services, and to conduct research to improve the quality of services.

Job Title: Community Mobilization Associate

Job Summary

  • Based in Sokoto, the Community Mobilization Associate works closely with and assists the community mobilization specialist in proving technical assistance for community mobilization activities.
  • S/he will perform the below mentioned tasks:

Responsibilities

  • Assist to facilitate immediate and long-range community mobilization activities related to Fistula Care programming at multiple levels, including individual households, local leadership, grassroots organizations, local, state and national government, and other Implementing and Donor Agencies.
  • Assist with the community mobilization strategy to reflect findings of 2016 Communications Needs Assessment conducted by FC+.
  • Provide assistance with the identification of community mobilization activities for inclusion in work plans and budgets, including budget estimates for planned activities
  • Provides technical assistance in the identification of community groups in focal states which may include religious groups, women’s groups, men’s groups, local community organizations and NGOs, as well as private sector institutions. Create awareness of obstetric fistula, its prevention, access to treatment and options for reintegration
  • Provide assistance in community training activities, including leading training sessions as needed
  • Assist with the FC+ fistula screening and referral intervention including development of relevant SBCC materials
  • Provides support to the interactive voice response fistula screening hotline run by VOTO mobile, and support to PHC orientation in study areas.
  • Assist in the review and writing of all community mobilization reports, feasibility assessments, recommendations, and research in consultation with the FC+ team and with oversight from other senior project staffs
  • Assist in the sensitization workshops and other activities with WDCs, community leaders and groups to increase awareness about fistula prevention and treatment and to foster positive attitudes on SRHR issues
  • Participate in the coordination of activities with community mobilization officers from FGON, USAID or other donor-supported projects to identify possible joint activities for implementation
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & Certifications

  • Bachelor Degree or Higher National Diploma from a recognized higher institution in public health, communication, health planning or related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in community engagement
  • Experience in providing support for community mobilization or SBCC preferred
  • Experience with report writing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially with community groups, other technical staff, experts, and with counterparts from the public, private and NGO sectors.
  • Computer skills with MS Word and MS Excel essential. Familiarity with software such as SPSS, Stata, MS Access, an advantage
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and to deal with variety of individuals from various socio economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English language.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work proactively, organize and manage own work and assist others to do the same

Job Title: Senior Monitoring, Evaluation & Research Advisor

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Project Manager, Fistula Care Plus, the Senior Monitoring, Evaluation & Research Advisor will be responsible for managing monitoring, evaluation and research activities for Fistula Care/Nigeria.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall technical leadership and oversight of monitoring, evaluation and research work in Fistula Care Plus /Nigeria.
  • Work with Fistula Care Plus/Nigeria clinical and program teams to develop the Project’s Performance Monitoring Plan (PMP).
  • Oversee implementation of the PMP including production and use of quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports.
  • Initiate and maintain strong ties with all Fistula Care/Nigeria M, E &R partners including the MoH, National Health Research/Ethics Council (NHREC) State and LGA leadership/management, and site-level staff.
  • Represent Fistula Care Plus/Nigeria in National Technical Working Groups responsible for developing research related protocols and guidelines.
  • Supervise Data Coordinator, as well as monitoring, evaluation and research consultants and interns.
  • Travel 30% of time for field based technical assistance.
  • In coordination with the project clinical team led by Deputy Project Manager, technically review all information produced by Fistula Care Plus /Nigeria and maximize its use in strategy and program planning, refinement and execution.
  • In consultation with the New York-based team and the clinical team oversee all local management and implementation of special studies such as the community fistula screening surveys, costing tool pilot, evaluation of community mobilization strategy, the presentation and dissemination of findings from the determinants of post-operative outcomes prospective study, and the duration of catheterization RCT.
  • Review and provide feedback on study protocols carried out in Nigeria, in compliance with EngenderHealth’s Evaluation and Research Standard Operating Procedures (E&R SOPs).
  • Oversee data use capacity building across Fistula Care PLus /Nigeria project and partner staff through use of the FC data for decision making curriculum.
  • Assure that evaluation and documentation of Fistula Care Plus/Nigeria activities are built into project expansion and all capacity- building efforts the project undertakes.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Education, Experience & Certifications

  • Master’s Degree in a field related to Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Monitoring and Evaluation of International Health and Development Programs.
  • Experience designing and conducting operations/applied research.
  • Experience providing technical assistance on the use of data for planning and decision making.
  • Familiarity with working in USAID-funded contracts or cooperative agreements preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience in M,E&R working on international health projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • English fluency required.
  • Excellent computer skills, with particular knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word in addition to statistical applications (e.g. SPSS, Stata, Epi Info); knowledge of qualitative software packages desirable.
