The Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA) is an independent humanitarian medical NGO that was created in 2009 by professionals of humanitarian medicine. ALIMA’s mission is to provide medical care in emergency situations or medical catastrophes. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

 

Job Title: Midwife
Job Location: 
Monguno, Borno
Organizational Unit: Sexual and Reproductive Health
Grade Classification: Level Five

Purpose of the Position

  • Provides obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to ALIMA obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and new-born caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC[1] and CEmONC[2]), neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care in accordance with MSF Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardised protocols.
  • WherePMTCT is implemented, ensure implementation of the PMTCT protocol in the ANC/delivery and PNC consultations (pre counselling, test and post counselling
  • Collaborate with the medical doctor and /or nurse in the management of Sexual Violence cases
  • Assess the feasibility for referral of pregnant women form the TBAs to the OPD/MCH for medical evaluation and/or complicated deliveries.
  • Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to ALIMA specifications.
  • Guarantee a regular and ongoing supply of drugs and equipment required for maternity activities (including monitoring/consumption control/ordering of orders.
  • Properly follow up all new-born babies from delivery until discharge, informing mothers and relatives about importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.
  • Ensure patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
  • Ensure that administrative procedures of admissions and hospitalizations comply with ALIMA protocols, as well as verify patients are properly informed and receive the documents required (birth certificate, vaccination card, etc
  • Participate in the organisation of the ward in collaboration with other midwifes and the maternity ward supervisor. Ensure transfer of relevant information to the next shift team (specially identifying risk cases)
  • According to ALIMA protocols in force, conduct normal deliveries independently Manage obstetric emergencies; identify cases needing referral and send them in time, clean up the new-born, executing and registering first neo-natal medical acts (cutting and cleaning the umbilical cord, vaccination, etc.), detecting possible anomalies/infections of the new-born and reporting them to the doctor, in order to ensure successful interventions.
  • Supervises the use of drugs, facilities and obstetric material, in order to ensure, in accordance with number of patients and prescriptions, a rational use as well as pharmacy stock levels are permanently updated, kept under appropriate conditions and above minimum safety point

Required Qualification/Experiences

  • Registered Midwife
  • Knowledge of the widely spoken local languages and English is required
  • Must be honest, reliable and flexible

Job Title: Nurse Data Collector
Job Location: University of Maiduguri Hospital, Borno
Job Type: Temporary Contract, Full time 4 months
Report to: Nurse Data Collector Supervisor

Research Study

  • We are collecting a set of standard health information (heart rate, breathing rate, level of anemia) from children ill with acute malnutrition to see if we can use them all together to determine which children are at highest risk of getting sicker and would need to be more closely monitored to better care for them
  • This study is being conducted collaboratively by Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA), The Hospital for Sick Children, and The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

General Job Description

  • To collect data for a research study on acute malnutrition within an impatient therapeutic feeding centre run by ALIMA in The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

Duties and Responsibilities
Enroll children into the study, follow children throughout enrollment in the study, discharge children from study (detailed task of each below):

Admission into Study:

  • Enroll children into the study who fit the criteria for admission who have been indicated by the health care team
  • Complete admission/discharge form including patient medical history, anthropometric measurements, and physical assessment
  • Perform admission bloodwork for rapid test for malaria and hemoglobin via finger-prick, if not already done by health care team (record results if already done)

Children Currently in Study:

  • Once per shift: perform vital signs on child (heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure), and assessment (capillary refill, respiratory assessment, oxygen saturation, oxygen use) and record on data collection form.
  • Once per shift: record required medical data taken from child’s medical record AND location of child within the inpatient therapeutic feeding centre on the data collection form (ICU, Phase 1, Phase 2)
  • Children discharged from study
  • Record required information pertaining to child’s discharge on admission/discharge form

Education and Training

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Fluent in Hausa and English
  • Experience in pediatric nursing care essential
  • Experience with acute malnutrition an asset
  • Experience in critical care nursing an asset
  • Experience in previous research studies an asset

Skills and Competencies
Nursing Tasks:

  • Proficient in taking vital signs of pediatric patients
  • Able to perform blood pressure using non-invasive blood pressure machines
  • Able to take measurement of oxygen saturation using oxygen saturation monitor

Other Qualities:

  • Able to maintain utmost patient confidentiality
  • Good planning and organization skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Calm, patient and able to work in busy stressful environment

Job Title: HR/Archivist

Purpose of the Position

  • Executes HR and Administration tasks of Monguno project according to Project Administration Manager’s indications and ALIMA procedures, in order to ensure legal compliance and keep a strict control over HR and Administration documents

Responsibilities

  • Implements archiving management procedures in order to ensure the highest control and security of HR and Administration documents.
  • Ensures employees’ HR files are updated on a daily basis with any new documents such as leave forms
  • Ensures that employees evaluation documents, disciplinary document, Payslips, salary advance form, dependence documents, school certificates, recruitment documents etc are filed in accordance with ALIMA procedures.
  • On the directive of the Project Administrator/HR Manaher, posts recruitment adverts and other notices on approved notice boards.
  • Ensures Payslips are stamped and distributed to employees and signed copies are properly archived according to ALIMA standard.
  • Ensures all documents in employees’ HR files are scanned in to soft and comprehensive soft copy data base is maintained.
  • Prepares venue, furniture and other necessary things needed for any meeting or recruitment test/interview in the office.
  • Carries out any printing and or scanning work in the office on the directive of the project Administrator/Project HR Manager
  • Ensures proper documentation of rental contract, vehicle rental, consultancy etc in accordance with ALIMA standard.
  • Ensures that all the backlog in the employees’ HR files are updated and scanned in to soft copy database.
  • On the directive of the Administrator/HR Manager, informs the Logistics for airport/Helipad pickup of any staff/visitor coming to Monguno
  • On the directive of the Administrator/HR Manager, arranges accommodation for guests/visitor coming to Monguno
  • Preparing daily worker pay schedule and get them approved by the respective signatories before delivering them to the finance for payment.
  • And any other tasks as may be given by the Project Administrator/HR Manager

Required Qualification/Experiences

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, Social Sciences
  • Or High School Diploma in Administration, Accounting, Management with 2 years of post-graduate relevant NGO experience will be accepted.
  • Previous experience in a similar role in Private/NGO is an asset
  • Knowledge of the widely spoken local languages and English is required
  • A very good working knowledge of computer (Excel, word, PowerPoint) required
  • Knowledge of Homere an asset
  • Must be honest, reliable and flexible
