We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Assistant
Location
: Kaduna, Nigeria
Type of Contract: Fixed Term
Contracted hours: 35
Contract Length: 1 year
Reporting to: Senior MEAL Coordinator

Role Purpose

  • Work with the MEAL team to strengthen existing MEAL systems to allow for effective, accurate reporting for decision making and project implementation
  • To provide day-to-day management of the pilot global digital M&E database, inputting programme data and providing feedback to the technical team
  • To assess the capacity of Christian Aid partners, work with the team to develop and build capacity of partners and respond to technical support requests from staff and partners. Encourage active knowledge management and organizational learning needs using Monitoring and Evaluation findings and learning.

The role will:

  • Maintain management information systems and data-files
  • Provide day-to-day support on the use of PROMISE
  • Provide ad-hoc support to project teams or country programme
  • Participate in programme planning processes
  • Assist the MEAL unit in regular data collection through implementing partners/volunteers

Role Context

  • The role works within the International Programmes role family positioned within the MEAL team or country programme, the post-holder also works in close collaboration with the Programme Quality & Impact Team
  • The role is key in providing MEAL support to the work team to ensure partnerships and programmes are managed effectively. The role will normally work within the country office.

Key Outcomes

  • Alongside supporting and contributing to effective MEAL practice, the role will deliver the following outcomes:
  • Global Monitoring and Evaluation Database:
  • Feedback on the monitoring and reporting database is co-ordinated and communicated effectively
  • Testing and data migration to the new database is supported to completion
  • Staff within the country office and partner organisations are trained and supported to use the database
  • Provide support to staff on the use of Christian Aid programme management information system, PROMISE.
  • Support migration of data from PROMISE to new database.
  • MEAL System Strengthening and Learning
  • MEAL capacity assessments of country programme & Christian Aid partners are completed with guidance and support from the Programme Quality & Impact Team
  • MEAL training for the country staff & Christian Aid Partners is delivered in coordination with the Programme Quality & Impact Team.
  • MEAL technical support requests expressed by partners are followed up with the relevant technical advisor
  • The quality of data submitted by partners is assessed and feedback provided to partners
  • Organisational learning is improved through sharing of Monitoring and Evaluation findings

Role Requirements
Relationships:

  • External:
    • The post holder will have relationships with partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Internal:
    • The position is line managed by the Senior MEAL Coordinator. Daily contact with the MEAL/Programme team within the country office and attending relevant team meetings. Frequent contact with peers in other country offices, the programme quality & impact team, other MEAL advisors and managers based globally.

  • The ability to make do-to-day decisions to assist in the administration and smooth running of the MEAL team and/or programme.

Analytical Skills:

  • Analytical skills desirable to perform day-to-day logistics and coordination work. Ability to identify challenges or errors within the Monitoring and Evaluation database, to spot errors in data and spot capacity gaps and training needs.

Developing Self and Others:

  • Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and build capacity of/guide new and existing staff on programme and MEAL requirement.

Person Specification
Applied Skills/knowledge and expertise
Essential:

  • Degree in Applied or Social Sciences or Statistics, with at least 2 years work experience
  • Good knowledge of donors (e.g. EU, DFID, USAID) reporting requirement and standards
  • Understanding and familiarity with database management and use.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluation and Project/programme-cycle management approaches and tools – including participatory planning.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Familiarity and understanding of statistical software such as SPSS, Epi-info; STATA
  • Excellent report writing, communication (written and verbal) skills, and.
  • Strong IT skills
  • Experience in coaching or training others on systems and processes
  • Fluent in English

Desirable:

  • Experience of using a database, particularly a Monitoring and Evaluation database or system
  • Understanding of partnership approach to international development
  • Proven experience of producing and analysing data accurately.
  • Manage and organize information systems and establish and maintain filing systems.
