International Medical Corps has been operating in Nigeria since November 2013, and currently has projects in two States (Kano and Borno). In Borno, International Medical Corps has been actively implementing interventions to support vulnerable populations recently affected by conflict and displacement due to insurgency.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title:  KAP Survey Consultant – Nutrition
Location: Nigeria

Program Background

  • International Medical Corps (IMC) Nigeria has been implementing the program (Expanded response to the emergency needs of IDPs and host communities in newly accessible areas in Borno, North East Nigeria), funded by U.S. Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance.

Main objectives of the program are to:

  • Improve IDPs and host communities’ access to quality nutrition services, Improve IDPs and host communities’ access to safe water, improved sanitation facilities and improved hygiene practices.
  • This is with overall goal of addressing the urgent needs for nutrition and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) for IDPs and host communities in Damboa and Dikwa local government areas.
  • IMC aims to improve the health status and living conditions of the target population through activities such as treatment of severely malnourished children through outpatient treatment program (OTPs) and in-patient treatment centre (SC), nutrition counselling, education and dialogue sessions on positive  infant and young child feeding practices through a platform of care group women support for all pregnant and lactating women of children aged 0-23 months and community leaders dialogue, capacity building through training and on the job mentorship for CNVs, nutrition technical staff and PLW, Household and MASS MUAC screening for all children aged 6-59 months to identify malnutrition and timely refer for care.
  • All these activities are directly integrated within IMC WASH and Food security sectors, whilst indirectly in some locations with other partners NGOs implementing WASH and FS.
  • Under this project, IMC is to conduct a KAP Survey to assess the knowledge and practises of the people in charge of the households regarding nutrition practices during pregnancy and the first 2 years of life for the infants, as well as the nutrition-related health practices such hygiene and sanitation at household level.

Objective of the Survey

  • To determine mothers/caretaker’s knowledge and caring practice regarding infant and young child feeding (among pregnant and lactating mother of children aged 0-23 months).
  • To provide additional qualitative information on the likely causes of malnutrition and barriers to optimal infant and young child feeding nutrition practices (E.g. through focus group discussions).
  • formulate and provide practical and sustainable recommendations to strengthen the nutrition activities based on the survey findings.
  • To assess the community’s knowledge, attitude, practice and beliefs regarding water, sanitation and hygiene
  • Overall to ascertain impact of nutrition and WASH activities in relation positive IYCF, hygiene and sanitation interventions for the last 6months and set and set new baseline for anticipated phase two of OFDA/USAID funded program in Damboa and Dikwa local government areas.

Deliverables:

  • Present the design, implementation and supervision strategy of the KAP survey. Validate with IMC country team and the TU Nutrition advisor
  • Implement the KAP survey in Nigeria, Borno State at Damboa & Dikwa Local Government Areas.
  • Present a draft KAP survey report including background, methodology, results, limitations, conclusions and recommendations (short term and medium-term recommendation)
  • Present a KAP final report incorporating the feedback from the IMC country team and the TU nutrition advisor
  • Submit all the data and analysis outputs (both raw and final) electronically to IMC country team

Qualifications

  • A health professional or nutritionist with MPH, MSc or advanced professional degree or field-related experience.
  • Significant and proven experience, at least three years, in community based qualitative studies including KAP surveys.
  • Knowledge in designing and implementing CMAM and IYCF programs
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, able to effectively present information clearly and respond appropriately to questions from IMC staff and other relevant stakeholders
  • Strong supervisory and organizational skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to cope with stress; hardship; patience and flexibility and willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to field sites and nutrition facilities
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of MS Office, EPI INFO, SPSS, ODK and ENA for SMART Software.

Job Title: GBV Coordinator
Location: Nigeria

Job Summary

  • The GBV Full-time Employee will provide leadership for the GBV prevention and response program supporting affected communities in North-East Nigeria.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Employee will serve as the GBV a lead on the implementation of OFDA and ECHO program in Nigeria.  Specifically, the Coordinator will complete the following tasks:

Implementation and Capacity Development:

  • Lead the design and delivery of major program activities, including the establishment and delivery of focused support services
  • Train program staff, volunteers, and partner organizations in technical areas, including psychosocial support and case management services
  • Establish and monitor supervision and support systems for case management services
  • Establish safe information sharing procedures
  • Organize and co-facilitate trainings for healthcare providers in clinical management of rape
  • Organize and facilitate GBV mainstreaming trainings for other sector actors
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports, on time and with accurate data
  • Develop support strategies for staff and introduce principles of self-care
  • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed

Coordination:

  • Coordinate with other service providers to establish and strengthen referral systems for survivors of GBV
  • Coordinate with relevant government authorities and international, national and local organizations
  • Coordinate with other sectors as possible to ensure integration of GBV concerns into various services

Program Planning:

  • Conduct situational analyses as appropriate to determine the feasibility of particular approaches and interventions
  • Support team to identify locations to establish safe spaces for women and girls
  • Lead the implementation of regular safety audits and share results with partners.
  • Contribute to concepts or proposals as requested

Security and Conduct:

  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies
  • Consider security implications of all program activities, in consultation with partner organizations
  • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organization’s Code of Conduct and Ethics

Compliance and ethics:

  • Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintain a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conduct work with the highest level of integrity. Job Title: Consultant, SMART Survey
Location: 
Nigeria

Principal Objective

  • The principal objective of the survey is to measure the extent and severity of acute malnutrition in children aged 6 to 59 months, assess IYCF practices and additional nutrition and health-related indicators as per the ECHO Funded Program results framework.

Specific Objectives

  • To determine prevalence of acute malnutrition, chronic malnutrition, underweight and overweight among children 6-59 months
  • To assess retrospective morbidity among children under 5
  • To assess retrospective mortality (Crude Mortality and U5 Mortality rates) over 3 months’ recall period among populations.
  • Assess community IYCF practices particularly among the households with children under two years of age
  • To establish recommendations on actions to address identified gaps to support planning, advocacy, decision making and monitoring.

Consultant will serve as the Survey Manager on the SMART & IYCF survey program in Borno State, Nigeria.  Specifically, Consultant will complete the following tasks:

  • Develop and design SMART survey protocol, including sample size estimation, population size, clustering of the villages etc., and validate contextual tools using the SMART methodology
  • Train the SMART data collection teams and data clerks (including field testing)
  • Assume overall responsibility for design and implementation of the SMART, including daily supervision of SMART teams and daily data collection quality assurance
  • Be responsible for data cleaning and analysis using appropriate software i.e. Epi Info, SPSS, ENA for SMART
  • Prepare a draft SMART survey report for review by IMC, ensuring that the assessment is comprehensive and includes all relevant indicators
  • Prepare a final report including background, methodology, results, limitations, conclusions and recommendations incorporating feedback from IMC staff on the draft report
  • Prepare and lead a validation workshop for MOH and stakeholders in Maiduguri, Borno State Nigeria. The presentation outcomes will be shared at national level via the Nutrition Cluster/ Nutrition working group

Job Title: Country Director
Location:

Job Summary

  • The Country Director is directly responsible for the overall strategic planning, human resources, program design and implementation, program support operations, finance, administration, monitoring and evaluation supervision, expansion/development, and required reporting for the country program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management:

  • Develop country-specific strategic plan and proposals for programs that will successfully transition our relief programs to early recovery and transition to more long-term development programs.
  • Work closely with the MoH to identify a strategy for the strengthening the health care system
  • Represent the organization and liaise with local and national authorities, UN, NGO, and donor agencies to promote the organizations programs, facilitate successful coordination of activities and ensure transparency and accountability to all stakeholders
  • Participate in writing and reviewing proposal applications
  • Provide technical inputs and assistance to programs with particular reference to financial management and reporting systems
  • Participate in UN health, Nutrition and WASH Cluster coordination to ensure programs playing a vital role and to secure required support from the cluster coordination mechanism and the UN funding instruments such as CERF, CHF etc

Compliance:

  • Oversee program operations and reporting, ensuring compliance with agency policies and procedures, Donor regulations and local laws
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on all program activities and progress to the central office and Donors
  • Oversee the preparation of annual work plans and budgets
  • Report regularly to headquarters, providing timely updates of all situational and project developments
  • Create and maintain an environment that prevents sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) of beneficiaries, by clearly defining the standards of behavior that are expected of IMC staff, as described in the organizations Code of Conduct; Ensure that mechanisms supporting these standards and principles are promoted, disseminated, and integrated into personnel requirements, and that the organizations SEA complaints procedures are in place and functioning properly.

Program Development:

  • Primarily responsible for expanding country portfolio
  • Pursue new sources of donor funding and maintain adequate donor funding levels to sustain identified program and support activities
  • Drafting and editing proposals
  • Remaining aware of donor funding intentions

Human Resources:

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection of qualified program field staff, recommend promotions, disciplinary action and termination of staff in consultation with supervisors
  • Collaborate with security staff to maintain the security of staff in the field locations
  • Make frequent site visits to facilities to ensure that appropriate care and training are being conducted and to offer support to field staff
  • Maintain open lines of communications with all field staff

Training/Capacity Building:

  • Determine training needs for the field staff
  • Train senior national staff to increase their responsibilities in order to build capacity and ensure sustainability of programs
  • Advocate and plan for professional development for expat and national staff

Working Relationships:

  • Maintain frequent communication with Regional Coordinator to ensure program activities and objectives are communicated
  • Work with Deputy Country Director, Medical Director, Finance Director, Security and Logistics staff to ensure the coordination of programs
  • Represent the organization at task force meetings, assessment missions, camp coordination meetings, UN coordination meetings, INGO coordination meetings
  • Interface with national government and relevant agencies to ensure mutual understanding of programs and maximize resource distribution and allocation of available funds

Representation:

  • Serve as the principal liaison with Donors on matters related to the program to ensure financial and programmatic accountability to Donors
  • Establish and update contact details of potential Donors in-country
  • Participate in Donor meetings and communicate relevant information to HQ
  • Work with key Donor Staff to develop and maintain optimum financial and programmatic relationship
  • Ensure maximum visibility of the Agency amongst the NGO community
  • Lead the production of reports and ensure the timeliness and accuracy of information provided, as well ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organizations Code of Conduct, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to internal and external actors

Security:

  • The Country Director is ultimately responsible for the security management of staff, operations, assets and directs country-specific response to security threats and incidents, up to and including management of evacuation Monitor security level and consult with the Director of Global Security to upgrade or downgrade level
  • Responsible for ensuring that Incident Report Forms are completed and submitted to HQ Security in a timely manner (within 12 hours)
  • Responsible for ensuring all staff are given a security briefing, and required documentation upon entry into the country
  • Ensure application and compliance of security protocols and policies
  • In cooperation with the Security Coordinator, monitor the security situation and inform the HQ Security Office through weekly security reports
  • Ensure that country security guidelines, SOP’s and policies are updated twice annually (July 31 and January 31) including contingency planning for evacuation, in accordance with agency protocols and respected by all staff
  • Ensure adequate security funding is budgeted
  • Nominate security focal points at each operational site in country
  • Collect and document local security-related information (social & political context, external players, presence/reasons for conflict, military developments, political economy of armed groups), and communicates to the Director of Global Security at HQ DC office
  • Establish a reliable communication chain to disperse important information, whereby once the CD communicates a message, it is systematically passed on from one person to the next, with each person knowing who they are responsible for informing. (phone tree)
  • Collaborate with local agencies to aid with security management

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:

Qualifications

  • 7-10 yrs of project management experience (management, planning, staff development and training skills) in emergency/development programs; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Significant experience in development programs, mainly in the health field (Health policy, health reforms)
  • Comprehensive knowledge and working experience with USAID, World Bank, EU, DfID and other donors;
  • Minimum financial management including preparing and managing budgets, banking activities, contracts and negotiations
  • Experience in developing and managing procurement and logistical procedures and policies
  • Skills and knowledge in program sustainability and capacity building, public-private partnerships and project monitoring and evaluation (both quantitative and qualitative methods)
  • Strong writing, presentation and program development skills;
