We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant

Description

  • NRC is looking for a Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant for our field offices in Maiduguri – Borno State in Northern Nigeria. The purpose of the Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant is the day to day implementation of Livelihoods and Food Security irrigation component of the EU project in Maiduguri; Biu; Damasak; Dikwa and Monguno in Borno State
  • NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja. NRC is currently providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH); Food Security; and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) in order to address identified humanitarian needs
  • The Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistant reports to the Livelihoods and Food Security Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Together with Livelihoods & Food security Officers, the Assistants will be responsible for the implementation of irrigation activities on the field – mobilization of communities, irrigation development assessments and monitoring of works.
  • Carry out the selection of project beneficiaries
  • Data collection for project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Coordinate the food security activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
  • Facilitate the distribution of materials and equipment according to procedures
  • Prepare weekly progress reports and other documents as required

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Civil Engineering / Agricultural Engineering / Irrigation Engineering
  • One-year experience in the NGO sector
  • Experience as an Agricultural Extension Agent
  • Knowledge of the context in Northeast Nigeria
  • Experience from working in Food Security humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Some knowledge of English.

We Offer

Description

  • NRC is looking for a Finance Technical Assistant for our area office in Maiduguri in Northern Nigeria. The purpose of the Finance Technical Assistant is to support programme activities in Maiduguri and in the field offices

Role and Responsibilities

  • The purpose of the officer position is day to day implementation of the support functions responsibilities. Use actions words such as ensure, implement or assist for the position relevant responsibilities.

Generic Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management

Specific Responsibilities:
These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention:

  • Take day to day responsibility of managing petty cash and cash box.
  • Take day to day responsibility of managing cheque payments.
  • Maintain up to date records, project accounts on the system to ensure that timely, accurate and appropriate information is available and reported.
  • Preparation of payment vouchers for cash and cheques and ensure timely settlement of all undisputed invoices.
  • assist the finance officer to perform cash and bank reconciliation.
  • Ensure daily, weekly, monthly and periodic cash count is done
  • Assist Finance officer in tracking advance and ensure that clearance of advance is done on time.
  • Ensure that all support documents are complete and accurate before the financial transaction is done.

Qualifications

  • Preferably a Degree in Finance, Economics or any other related course
  • Ability to work as a member of the team
  • Previous (2 years) experience working in an accounting department (preferably NGO)
  • Willingness to be flexible and respond in a timely manner to support colleague when need arise.
