Protea Hospitality Corporation has always believed that in order to achieve the levels of service excellence that we strive for, we need to hire people that are well suited for our industry and then equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver quality service consistently.

In terms of this commitment towards developing the competencies of Protea people, the “Protea Hotels Institute for Professional Development (PHIPD) – Achieving Excellence Through Quality Training” was launched in January 2001.

Certain registered “Training Hotels” managed by our Company operate, in conjunction with Regional Hotel Schools, a three-year programme to equip trainees with practical skills and a broad knowledge of the hospitality industry.

The trainees work in all the different departments of the hotel to gain a practical insight into Hotel operations, whilst the theoretical aspect of the Hospitality Industry are covered by study-release periods at the Hotel Schools. The trainees are also required to study in their own time.
