SASRF is currently executing a CSR Pilot Project in conjunction with Lagos State Government under the “Support Our Schools” Initiative tagged Teachers4Change Initiative – a 1 year continuous school development program that involves Teacher Training, Motivation and Mentoring for Public Primary school teachers in Lagos state; as well as a media advocacy campaign on the need for quality education and the roles of the community in ensuring this.

Overall Responsibilities
As part of the ongoing pilot program for the Teachers4Change Project, SASRF is seeking Volunteers who will serve as Mentors for the 60 Public Primary School Teachers for 6 Months. The Mentoring Program will involve one-on-one mentoring which will be led by a volunteer corps of veteran Teachers, where mentors meet with trainees for at least one hour per month at an agreed location and time. The mentoring curriculum is tailored to unlock the potentials of these Teachers to see what invaluable abilities they truly possess. Curriculum themes include Self Awareness & Development, Personal Ethics, Creativity, Innovation & its sustenance, Work-Life Balance, etc. This volunteer opportunity will provide individuals with firsthand experience in peer coaching and supervision. Mentors will also receive Certificates of Recognition at the end of the program.

Competences:

A mentor should be someone who is willing and able to:
 Help the mentee believe in himself and boost his confidence.
 Ask questions & challenge, while providing guidance and encouragement to the mentee.
 Emphasize to the mentee what growth opportunities exist out there.
 Help the mentee focus on bigger things.
 Advise the mentee but let him do his homework.

Job Qualifications:

The Teachers4Change Mentor should fulfill the following minimum requirements:
 An active or retired Teacher or School Administrator with at least 10 years of experience in the Education sector (public and/or private sectors)
 Must be prepared and committed to invest time and effort towards helping/challenging the Mentees to reach further
 Must be willing to share his/her personal knowledge and experiences and be available for mentoring meetings at least once in a month
 Should be well-versed in modern teaching methodologies
 Must possess the following qualities:
 Empathy
 High sense of moral integrity
 Excellent listening skill
 Positive attitude
 Sensitivity to the needs of the mentee
 Respect for and acceptance of the mentee
 Trustworthy
