The Education Coordinator will coordinate core PLANE technical work related to improved foundational skills in primary schools<\/li>\n
Responsibilities include the coordination and oversight of material development and distribution; the coordination and oversight of in-service and pre-service teacher training; and coordination and oversight of community mobilization and strengthening of school leadership<\/li>\n
In addition to coordination and oversight roles, s\/he will be responsible for technical leadership around literacy and mathematics education, providing expertise in instruction, assessment, research, coaching, training and materials development<\/li>\n
Working closely with the Output 1 Technical Director and other technical staff, H\/She will ensure effective planning, delivery and documentation of program interventions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Project Description<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
The newly awarded project Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) is a project funded by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), formerly known as the UK Department for International Development (DFID)<\/li>\n
PLANE is a 7 year project (2020-2027) that strengthens education systems to improve foundational skills in reading and math for children in the primary grades<\/li>\n
PLANE\u2019s focal states are Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa, with limited interventions in other parts of Nigeria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
Provide technical leadership for literacy, mathematics, materials development, and teacher professional development<\/li>\n
Support development and implementation strategies and work plans, and coordinate the days-to-day management of technical staff and program implementation.<\/li>\n
Promote technical harmony and reinforcement across Output 1 activities<\/li>\n
Provide leadership and oversight to Technical Working Groups in Materials, Teacher Professional Development, and School Support<\/li>\n
Maintain a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with technical and operations staff, especially the Output 1 Technical Director, M&E Manager, Senior Programme Officer.<\/li>\n
Maintain constructive dialogue with HQ counterparts, particularly the HQ Technical Advisor and Technical Officers, as well as PLANE partnering organizations<\/li>\n
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with relevant government agencies and other partners.<\/li>\n
Coordinate the implementation of all teacher professional development workshops, Community of Practice meeting and implementation of all Master trainers\u2019 workshops.<\/li>\n
Coordinate the design and delivery of teaching and learning materials, ensuring high-quality and timeliness of all deliverables<\/li>\n
Coordinate efforts to bolster school leadership and community mobilization, linking efforts with other Output 1 Activities<\/li>\n
Collaborate with M&E team to incorporate data into project learning and adapt project practices accordingly;<\/li>\n
Develop and submit quarterly and annual reports; develop activity reports on an as-needed basis<\/li>\n
Conduct school visits to monitor program effectiveness and identify gaps in the technical design or implementation<\/li>\n
Liaise with government agencies and schools to maximize opportunity for enabling policy, sustainability and ownership for reading and numeracy intervention in the state.<\/li>\n

Qualifications and Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
Advanced Degree in Education or related field.<\/li>\n
At least 5 to 7 years\u2019 experience in education sector; experience working in primary education strongly preferred<\/li>\n
Demonstrated ability to work with government, partners and\/or local government structures and school settings.<\/li>\n
Proven expertise in mother tongue (L1), early grade reading or math instruction and\/or assessment<\/li>\n
Significant experience in developing and producing of supplementary reading materials, workbooks, trainers\u2019 and teachers\u2019 guides and instructional materials to improve foundational skills in the primary grades<\/li>\n
Has ability to coordinate education interventions, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities<\/li>\n
Strong leadership qualities and facilitation skills, experience in working with teachers to improve practice<\/li>\n
Experience in project reporting<\/li>\n
Demonstrable knowledge of research-based best practices literacy instruction and\/or math instruction<\/li>\n
Experience\/preparation in modeling teaching, observing teachers, and providing feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n
Knowledge of reading & literacy programs in Nigeria. Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of the political and ethical issues surrounding formative learning processes<\/li>\n
Proficient writing and verbal communication skills.\u00a0 Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain good working relationship with staff and other AHNI partners<\/li>\n
Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially in terms of reporting. Relevant computer software and internet skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office)<\/li>\n
Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English and Hausa language. Ability to travel in Nigeria minimum of 50%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
