We are recruiting to fill the position below:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Broadcast Journalist, BBC Yoruba<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Lagos, Nigeria<br \/>\n<strong>Job Reference:<\/strong> BBC\/TP\/2269572\/59329<br \/>\n<strong>Contract Type:<\/strong> Fixed Term Full Time<br \/>\n<strong>Job Category:<\/strong> Journalism<br \/>\n<strong>Business Unit:<\/strong> News &#8211; WSG World Service<br \/>\n<strong>Reports to:<\/strong> Country Director &#8211; Nigeria<br \/>\n<strong>Contract Duration:<\/strong> 12\u00a0month contract<br \/>\n<strong>Band:<\/strong> C<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Brief:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are looking for an excellent\u00a0Journalist with the relevant technical and language skills to join the new Yoruba service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Job Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Originate and produce, as part of a team, a wide variety of news and current affairs content for relevant output.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Role Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As a Broadcast Journalist you will work creatively across all digital platforms \u2013 audio, video and text \u2013 to ensure that the Yoruba Service output develops and grows a distinctive character and status in its target area.<\/li>\n<li>On a daily basis, you will engage actively with the audience ensuring consistency of output.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll use editorial judgement, creativity and flair to make original and compelling multimedia content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.<\/li>\n<li>May be required to present the content on radio, TV or online. This might be live or recorded.<\/li>\n<li>May include the production and presentation of programmes. This might be live or recorded.<\/li>\n<li>Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.<\/li>\n<li>To undertake pre- and post-production and studio work, live and pre-recorded. Use a range of video, audio anddigital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.<\/li>\n<li>To liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.<\/li>\n<li>Take a lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>To tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.<\/li>\n<li>To prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources available.<\/li>\n<li>To produce engaging packages through a range of production skills.<\/li>\n<li>Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.<\/li>\n<li>At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Essential:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Significant recent experience as a journalist, with a good knowledge of production techniques.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates sound editorial and policy decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC\u2019s distinctive news agenda, the requirements of news and current affairs coverage and the audience.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to use technology as required, in order to gather material for broadcast.<\/li>\n<li>Understands how a team works effectively.<\/li>\n<li>Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.<\/li>\n<li>Effective planning and organising skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.<\/li>\n<li>The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.<\/li>\n<li>An understanding of health and safety procedures and how they apply to broadcasting<\/li>\n<li>clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.<\/li>\n<li>The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.<\/li>\n<li>An understanding of health and safety procedures and how they apply to broadcasting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Ideal Candidate:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The successful candidate will have a demonstrable background in a journalistic role, with first class knowledge of news that appeals to a Nigerian audience.<\/li>\n<li>You will be fluent in Yoruba and English, written and spoken.<\/li>\n<li>You will have a in-depth knowledge of news and stories related to the West Africa region, with a full understanding of Nigerian history, politics, social and cultural issues.<\/li>\n<li>The ability to operate technical equipment to meet the artistic, technical and safety requirements for delivering audio, video and text publishing is essential. This includes operating studios, computer equipment, recording and editing systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Job Impact:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Decision making:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>High level of responsibility and decision making; able to operate alone.<\/li>\n<li>No managerial responsibility.
