The Bank began effective operations on July 1, 1966. Its major role is to contribute to the economic and social progress of its regional member countries &#8211; individually and collectively.<br \/>\nUnder Article 8 of the Agreement establishing the AfDB, the Bank is authorized to establish or be entrusted with administering and managing special funds which are consistent with its purposes and functions. In line with this provision, the African Development Fund (ADF) was established with non-African states in 1972 and the Nigeria Trust Fund (NTF) with the Nigeria Government in 1976. Other special and trust funds include: the Arab Oil Fund; the Special Emergency Assistance Fund for Drought and Famine in Africa; the Special Relief Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Working at the AfDB is about bringing out the best in people. AfDB is recruiting to fill the below vacant position:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Title: 2013 Internship Program &#8211; Session 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reference<\/strong>: ADB\/12\/181<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The broad objectives of the program are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.<\/li>\n<li>Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the AfDB<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nDuties and responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The fields of study from which interns shall be selected must be within the job families of the Bank, particularly Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development (education and health), Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, Internal Audit, Budget, Governance or any other field of study that the Bank may deem relevant to its operations.<\/li>\n<li>Special consideration shall be given to students who are working on projects that have a direct bearing on the mission of the Bank.<\/li>\n<li>Internships shall be performed either at the Bank\u2019s headquarters in Abidjan, at the Temporary Relocation Agency in Tunis (Tunisia) or in any one of the Bank\u2019s field offices<\/li>\n<li>The program is annually run for two sessions as follows:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Winter &#8211; Session I:<\/strong>\u00a0January through March.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summer &#8211; Session II:<\/strong>\u00a0June through August.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interns shall be responsible for their air travel (where applicable) to and from the Bank\u2019s location as well as their upkeep.<\/li>\n<li>Interns shall be responsible for their medical and accident insurance coverage, and for obtaining entry and residence visas in the host country of the Bank.<\/li>\n<li>The internship will be authorized only once for any candidate.<\/li>\n<li>Interns will be provided with a monthly stipend, depending on the budget availability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements:<\/strong><br \/>\nTo be eligible for internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:<br \/>\nApplicants must be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students, aged between eighteen (18) to thirty (30) years, and currently enrolled in a Master\u2019s level degree program or its equivalent in a recognized public or private institution of higher learning.<\/li>\n<li>The candidate can apply for an internship within one year of having obtained such a degree.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a letter from their school confirming their enrollment.<\/li>\n<li>Citizens of one of the Bank\u2019s member countries.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be fluent in; at least, one of the Banks\u2019s working languages (English or French).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nApplication Closing Date:<\/strong><br \/>\n30th September, 2012<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nNote:<br \/>\n<\/strong>Only applicants who fully meet the Bank&#8217;s requirements and are being considered for interview will be contacted.
