We are recruiting to fill the position below:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title: Legal Manager<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Lagos<br \/>\n<strong>Employment Type:<\/strong> Permanent<br \/>\n<strong>Department:<\/strong> Legal &amp; Regulatory Affairs<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Role\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This role is a\u00a0commercial legal\u00a0role\u00a0within the Legal &amp; Regulatory Affairs Department,\u00a0with responsibility for\u00a0providing\u00a0legal and regulatory advice and guidance across the Group and\u00a0to\u00a0supports the\u00a0Commercial team with legal advice and contract negotiations.<\/li>\n<li>The duties and responsibilities captured within this role are as follows:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Commercial Legal\u00a0Affairs:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing\u00a0guidance and oversight to the business on legal matters.<\/li>\n<li>Drafting,\u00a0reviewing\u00a0and negotiating of agreements\/contracts.<\/li>\n<li>Providing\u00a0legal support to the commercial teams through the drafting of and reviewing of contracts, negotiating of commercial terms and legal execution for commercial relationships.<\/li>\n<li>Serving as legal advisor to support internal stakeholders such as IT, commercial, treasury,\u00a0compliance\u00a0and other support departments.<\/li>\n<li>Oversight\u00a0of\u00a0the contract management tool\/system for commercial contracting.<\/li>\n<li>Oversight of contract lifecycles and arranging for re-negotiation of terms where necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Conducting periodic reviews of existing legal documentation to ensure they\u00a0remain\u00a0relevant, applicable, and\u00a0up-to-date.<\/li>\n<li>Identifying\u00a0legal and regulatory risks in transactions, contracts and other activities conducted by the Group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Regulatory Affairs:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing\u00a0guidance and oversight on regulatory matters.<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring and responding to regulatory developments across Africa and advising on the impact, if any, on MFS Africa and its business strategy.<\/li>\n<li>Supporting the Group\u2019s efforts in\u00a0acquiring\u00a0new licenses and\/or expansion of existing licenses.<\/li>\n<li>Playing a key role in ensuring MFS Africa\u2019s compliance with the laws and regulations of each country in which we\u00a0operate, by conducting frequent regulatory horizon scanning and advising on changes in law and regulation and how these might\u00a0impact\u00a0the organisation and its businesses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other Legal Matters:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Managing IP and IP registrations\u00a0related to the business.<\/li>\n<li>Handling of contractual disputes.<\/li>\n<li>Together with external legal counsel, coordinating all litigation and legal proceedings.<\/li>\n<li>Providing\u00a0data protection and privacy related advice.<\/li>\n<li>Carrying out legal audits from time to time to assess and\u00a0monitor\u00a0the legal standing of the organisation and its existing legal obligations.<\/li>\n<li>Adhoc\u00a0legal advice.<\/li>\n<li>This position is based in\u00a0either\u00a0Johannesburg, South Africa;\u00a0Lagos, Nigeria; Abidjan, Cote d\u2019Ivoire;\u00a0Port Louis, Mauritius,\u00a0or Nairobi,\u00a0Kenya\u00a0and reports to the\u00a0Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Skills and Competencies\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Superior verbal and written communication skills \u2013 able to articulate one\u2019s views in a clear and concise manner.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent listening skills, analytical and problem-solving aptitude.<\/li>\n<li>Creative and critical thinker, comfortable challenging the status quo and proposing innovative, constructive solutions to address business challenges.<\/li>\n<li>Effectively manage relationships with multiple stakeholders (internal and external) at various levels of seniority,\u00a0operating\u00a0at both a strategic and tactical level.<\/li>\n<li>Comfortable working in a diverse, collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts.<\/li>\n<li>Passionate about consistency, quality, and integrity in legal and regulatory risk management.<\/li>\n<li>High propensity towards execution, even under a high degree of pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Able to work autonomously in a highly demanding and often ambiguous environment.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborative working style, with the ability to\u00a0identify\u00a0and organize resources\u00a0required\u00a0to deliver on projects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications and Experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Qualified lawyer or holder of Degree of Master of Laws in a relevant\u00a0jurisdiction, with working experience within the financial sector or at a law firm<\/li>\n<li>5+ years\u2019 experience in FinTech, consumer\/digital financial services, and\/or regulatory engagement.<\/li>\n<li>Deep, demonstrable, practical knowledge of driving, interpreting, and applying regulation in the context of consumer financial services.<\/li>\n<li>Pan-African exposure, experience, excitement, and\u00a0expertise\u00a0will be invaluable.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of market and industry developments within the broader financial services sector that relate to legal and regulatory risks in Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To Apply<\/strong><br \/>\nInterested and qualified candidates should:<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mfsafrica.bamboohr.com\/careers\/247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to apply online<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline: <\/strong>Not Specified.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MFS Africa is the leading digital payments platform in Africa, enabling low-cost payments across the continent.
