The successful candidate should be able to inspire all students to fulfil their academic potential. It is essential that the appointed person is an effective team member, who can help to promote the English Faculty via curriculum enhancement trips, and is willing to actively seek opportunities to develop teaching and learning within the subject.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your professional duties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Specific Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching<\/li>\n<li>Be an excellent teacher<\/li>\n<li>Be committed to raising academic standards and improving the quality of teaching and learning within their subject<\/li>\n<li>Plan lessons thoroughly in accordance with school policy and in line with the department\u2019s schemes of work<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that individual lessons are sufficiently challenging and enable all students to learn at all points in the lesson<\/li>\n<li>Inspire students to continue their learning beyond lessons<\/li>\n<li>Engender an atmosphere within lessons, which is conducive to active learning and encourages pupils to learn collaboratively<\/li>\n<li>Actively promote the subject, for example by using suitable wall displays<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that effective use is made of the resources available within the department and that they are well maintained<\/li>\n<li>Actively seek CPD opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Assessment, Recording and Reporting<\/li>\n<li>Set ambitious, yet realistic, targets for students and encourage them to fulfil their academic potential<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that appropriate work is set on a regular basis and is forthcoming from all students<\/li>\n<li>Monitor and track the progress of students by setting appropriate assessments in line with departmental policy<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that assessed work is marked on a regular basis in accordance with the departmental marking policy and that it is appropriately annotated to enable students to assess their own learning<\/li>\n<li>Implement the department\u2019s intervention strategies for underperforming students<\/li>\n<li>Maintain accurate records of all assessed work<\/li>\n<li>Complete all interim, half term and end-of-term reports in a professional manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong><strong>Liaison<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A teacher is expected to liaise with:<\/li>\n<li>The head of faculty, to make that person aware of any matters likely to affect their ability to perform their teaching and pastoral roles effectively<\/li>\n<li>The head of faculty with regard to all academic matters<\/li>\n<li>The head of faculty, tutors and parents with regard to students, who are a cause for concern to a member of the department in terms of underperformance<\/li>\n<li>The head of faculty with regard to matters involving the fabric of departmental rooms and their upkeep<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> 3. \u00a0Professional standards<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support the benedictine ethos of the school<\/li>\n<li>Keep abreast of national educational initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Make a significant contribution to extra-curricular activities and the day and boarding life of the school<\/li>\n<li>Set a good example to students by appropriate dress, conduct and punctuality<\/li>\n<li>Treat all members of the school community with respect and consideration<\/li>\n<li>Treat all pupils fairly, consistently and without prejudice<\/li>\n<li>Take responsibility for personal professional development within the school\u2019s CPD programme<\/li>\n<li>Attend all departmental and staff meetings as required<\/li>\n<li>Promote the school on public occasions, such as open days, parents\u2019 conferences and prize day<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that all deadlines are met as published in the school calendar<\/li>\n<li>Take responsibility for matters relating to health and safety<\/li>\n<li>Undertake duties that may be reasonably assigned by the Head Master (directly or indirectly)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Skills<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to teach at all levels up to and including university entrance<\/li>\n<li>Able to incorporate ICT into lessons<\/li>\n<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to motivate and enthuse students, and work collaboratively with other colleagues<\/li>\n<li>Ability to contribute significantly to the school\u2019s extra-curricular programme<\/li>\n<li>Ability to prioritize and be well organized<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to teach Drama and\/or Theatre Studies<\/li>\n<li>ICT proficiency e.g. interactive lessons, development of resources for an intranet<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to organize book clubs and reading groups<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to organize trips to theatres and literary festivals<\/li>\n<li>Ability to coach sports and a range of other extra-curricular activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Knowledge:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Secure subject knowledge<\/li>\n<li>Awareness of examination specifications and requirements, and how to use this information to raise academic standards<\/li>\n<li>Awareness of appropriate teaching and learning strategies, and how to use this practice to improve the quality of teaching and learning<\/li>\n<li>Awareness of safeguarding issues<\/li>\n<li>Application of AfL to the development of teaching and learning<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to develop own learning of the subject<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Personal
