The United Nations Foundation links the UN\u2019s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women\u2019s empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.<br \/>\nThe United Nations Foundation is honored to work with you and the United Nations to foster a more peaceful, prosperous and just world.<\/p>\n<p>We are recruiting to fill the position below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Intern \u2013 Communication<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Opening Number:<\/strong>\u00a017-Documentation and Information -UNODC-83160-J-Abuja (A)<br \/>\n<strong>Location<\/strong>: Abuja<br \/>\n<strong>Job Code title:<\/strong>\u00a0Intern \u2013 Information Management<br \/>\n<strong>Department\/Office:\u00a0<\/strong>United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime<br \/>\n<strong>Organization, Setting and Reporting<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The internship in UNODC\u2019s Country Office in Nigeria is for two months with an opportunity for extension, dependent upon the needs of the department.<\/li>\n<li>The internship is UNPAID and full-time.<\/li>\n<li>Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the Representative and in cooperation with the Communications Officer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><br \/>\nThe intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assistance in drafting and preparing documents for publication on the website of the Office<\/li>\n<li>Document and internet research for communication products on UNODC work in Nigeria<\/li>\n<li>Assistance during conferences<\/li>\n<li>Working on web-presentation<\/li>\n<li>Compiling statistics<\/li>\n<li>Media analysis<\/li>\n<li>Speech-writing<\/li>\n<li>Assistance in the management of the website<\/li>\n<li>Perform other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<li>Competencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Communication:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately;<\/li>\n<li>Asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication;<\/li>\n<li>Tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Teamwork:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others\u2019 ideas and expertise;<\/li>\n<li>Is willing to learn from others; places team agenda before personal agenda;<\/li>\n<li>Supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Technological Awareness:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitation of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks;<\/li>\n<li>Shows willingness to learn new technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><br \/>\nTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be enrolled in a Graduate School programme (second University Degree or equivalent, or higher);<\/li>\n<li>Be enrolled in the final academic year of a First University Degree programme (minimum Bachelor\u2019s level or equivalent); or<\/li>\n<li>Have graduated with a University Degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (official proof from the University to support one of the above options has to be attached to the Inspira application).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicants are additionally required to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Possess an academic background in the field of political science, international relations, security studies, criminal justice or related discipline;<\/li>\n<li>Be computer literate in standard software applications, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;<\/li>\n<li>Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and<\/li>\n<li>Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Work Experience:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, but are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their application.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must have a keen demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Languages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
