{"id":41798,"date":"2017-09-05T14:02:55","date_gmt":"2017-09-05T13:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistnigeria.com\/?p=41798"},"modified":"2017-09-05T14:02:55","modified_gmt":"2017-09-05T13:02:55","slug":"gates-cambridge-scholarship-2018-study-united-kingdom-fully-funded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistnigeria.com\/gates-cambridge-scholarship-2018-study-united-kingdom-fully-funded.html","title":{"rendered":"Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2018 for Study in the United Kingdom (Fully Funded)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; this is the largest ever single donation to a UK university.<\/p>\n<p>Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The selection criteria are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>outstanding intellectual ability<\/li>\n<li>leadership potential<\/li>\n<li>a commitment to improving the lives of others<\/li>\n<li>a good fit between the applicant\u2019s qualifications and aspirations and the postgraduate programme at Cambridge for which they are applying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While at Cambridge, Scholars pursue full range of subjects available at the University and are spread through its departments and Colleges.<\/p>\n<p>Our Alumni are pursuing further study or employment across many sectors of society and, despite the relative youth of the programme, are increasingly taking on leadership roles and applying their knowledge and skills to improve the lives of others.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the Gates Cambridge programme is to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom<\/li>\n<li>applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study at the University of Cambridge:\n<ul>\n<li>PhD (three year research-only degree)<\/li>\n<li>MSc or MLitt (two year research-only degree)<\/li>\n<li>One year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Current student at Cambridge?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are currently studying at Cambridge and wish to apply for a new postgraduate course you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. For example, if you are currently studying for an MPhil you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a PhD. Current Gates Cambridge Scholars may also apply for a second scholarship if they are applying for a new degree. All current Cambridge students will be considered in round two.\u00a0However, if you have already started a course you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to fund the remainder of it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Courses which are NOT eligible for Gates Cambridge Scholarships:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BA (undergraduate)<\/li>\n<li>BA affiliated (a second BA)<\/li>\n<li>MBBChir Clinical Studies<\/li>\n<li>MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time)<\/li>\n<li>Part-time degrees<\/li>\n<li>Non-degree courses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each Scholar is different and brings something unique to the programme. But we are looking for four key criteria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic excellence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gates Cambridge Scholars are expected to be academically outstanding with the ability to make a significant contribution to their discipline while in Cambridge. At the start of the application process, potential Scholars are ranked by the department they are applying to. Only the most outstanding candidates are considered further.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leadership potential<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a clear ability to lead. Evidence of leadership can be expressed in a multitude of ways but the capacity of Gates Cambridge Scholars to \u2018take others with them\u2019 is central to the success of the programme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A commitment to improving the lives of others<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A defining characteristic of the Gates Cambridge Scholarships is the commitment of our Scholars to working for the greater good. Although broadly interpreted, this concept is nonetheless fundamental and sets this programme apart from others of its kind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A good academic fit with Cambridge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You should be able to persuade the Trust that your qualifications and aspirations accord with what Cambridge has to offer in its postgraduate programme. It is important that you can make a convincing argument for doing a particular postgraduate degree at Cambridge.
