{"id":49155,"date":"2018-02-26T11:33:32","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T10:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/joblistnigeria.com\/?p=49155"},"modified":"2018-02-27T10:01:09","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T09:01:09","slug":"world-bankjapan-ongoing-scholarship-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/joblistnigeria.com\/world-bankjapan-ongoing-scholarship-application.html","title":{"rendered":"World Bank\/Japan Ongoing Scholarship Application"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The World Bank Scholarships Program contributes to the World Bank Group\u2019s mission of forging new dynamic approaches to capacity development and knowledge sharing in the developing world.<\/p>\n<p>It is an important component of the Bank Group\u2019s efforts to promote economic development and shared prosperity through investing in education and developing human resources in the developing world.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1982, the Program has helped to form a pool of over 6,000 well-trained and experienced development professionals, transforming their countries and positively impacting future generations.<\/p>\n<p><b>The Joint Japan\/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program<\/b>\u00a0(JJ\/WBGSP) is open to women and men from developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries\u2019 development efforts who are applying to a master degree program in a development-related topic.<\/p>\n<p>JJWBGSP offers scholarships for over 200\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pubdocs.worldbank.org\/en\/374821478177457089\/JJ-WBGSP-Preferred-Programs.xlsx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Preferred Programs<\/b><\/a>\u00a0(.xlsx 49 KB)\u00a0spanning a wide array of development topics and for 14<a>\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/pubdocs.worldbank.org\/en\/794501478095065445\/JJ-WBGSP-Partnership-Programs.xlsx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Partner Programs<\/b><\/a>\u00a0(.xlsx 15 KB) \u00a0at universities in U.S., Africa and Japan in key areas of development, including economic policy management, tax policy, and infrastructure management.\u00a0 JJWBGSP scholarships for developing country nationals are not available for any other master degree program.<\/p>\n<p>After earning their degree, developing country scholars commit to\u00a0return\u00a0to their home country to use their new skills and contribute to their countries\u2019 social and economic development.<\/p>\n<p>A JJWBGSP scholarship provides tuition, a monthly living stipend, round-trip airfare, health insurance, and travel allowance.<\/p>\n<p><b>Who is Eligible to Apply?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Details on Eligibility Criteria for each call for applications are provided in that call\u2019s Application Guidelines, and these detailed eligibility criteria are strictly adhered to. No exceptions are made.<\/p>\n<p>Broadly speaking, Developing Country nationals must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a national of a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pubdocs.worldbank.org\/en\/638031509373581598\/eligible-to-borrow-country-list.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Bank member developing country<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country;<\/li>\n<li>Be in good health;<\/li>\n<li>Hold a Bachelor\u2019s (or equivalent) degree earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date;<\/li>\n<li>Have 3 years or more of recent development-related work experience after earning a Bachelor\u2019s (or equivalent) degree;<\/li>\n<li>Be employed in development-related work in a paid full- time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application. \u00a0The only exception to this criterion is for developing country nationals from a country that will be on the updated list of Fragile and Conflict States provided to applicants in the Application Guidelines for each call for scholarships.<\/li>\n<li>On or before the Scholarship Application Deadline date, be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) for the upcoming academic year to at least one of the\u00a0<b>JJ\/WBGSP\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pubdocs.worldbank.org\/en\/374821478177457089\/JJ-WBGSP-Preferred-Programs.xlsx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">preferred university master\u2019s programs<\/a><\/b>\u00a0and located outside of the applicant\u2019s country of citizenship and country of residence listed at the time the call for scholarship applications open.<\/li>\n<li>Not be an Executive Director, his\/her alternate, and\/or staff of any type of appointment of the World Bank Group or a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption with the term \u201cclose relative\u201d defined as: Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew; *Please note: All eligibility criteria are strictly adhered to. No exceptions are made. Eligibility criteria WILL NOT change during an open call for applications. Inquiries on how to submit an admissions application to a partner program should be submitted to the respective university.<\/p>\n<p>After reviewing submitted applications, each Partner Master Degree Program will identify a short list of eligible candidates who will then be invited by the JJWBGSP Secretariat to apply for a JJ\/WBGSP scholarship. View the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pubdocs.worldbank.org\/en\/794501478095065445\/JJ-WBGSP-Partnership-Programs.xlsx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complete list of JJ\/WBGSP Partner<\/a>\u00a0(.xlsx 15 KB) master degrees offered.<\/p>\n<p><b>Selection Process<\/b><br \/>\nThe JJ\/WBGSP uses the following process to review eligible scholarship applications from developing country nationals, with the aim of identifying the candidates with the highest potential, after completion of their graduate studies, to impact the development of their countries.<\/p>\n<p>Two qualified assessors independently review each eligible application and score the application on a scale of 1 to 10, taking into account four main factors and the degree of cohesion among them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quality of Professional Experience (30% weight)<\/li>\n<li>Quality of Professional Recommendations (30% weight)<\/li>\n<li>Quality of Commitment to your Home Country (30% weight)<\/li>\n<li>Quality of Education Background (10% weight)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The JJ\/WBGSP Secretariat uses the average score of the two assessors and the following criteria to select the finalists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintaining a reasonably wide geographical distribution of awards, that takes into account the geographic distribution of eligible applications;<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining a reasonable distribution of awards across gender that takes into account the distribution of eligible applications across gender;<\/li>\n<li>Unusual circumstances\/hardships, when assessing the employment experience and other aspects of an application;<\/li>\n<li>Giving scholarships to those applicants who, other things being equal, appear to have limited financial resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><i><u>Please note:<\/u><\/i><\/strong>\u00a0 Regarding the criteria \u201cGiving scholarships to those applicants who, other than being equal, appear to have limited financial resources\u201d. this includes taking into consideration if the applicant has received scholarship funding from the government of Japan or its agencies (including JICA, the Central Bank, and local governments) to help finance a graduate or professional degree (including Law, Medicine, Masters, PhD), irrespective of whether or not the applicant earned that graduate \/ professional degree.<\/p>\n<p>The JJWBGSP Secretariat presents the finalists for the preferred program scholarship to the JJ\/WBG Steering Committee (composed of members of the World Bank Board of Directors and WB management) for final review and selection for a scholarship. The Secretariat informs the scholarship winners in July.<\/p>\n<p>The JJWBGSP Secretariat presents the finalists for partnership scholarship to the World Bank\u2019s Executive Director for Japan for approval on a rolling basis, matching the JJWBGSP Partner university\u2019s admission cycle. The Secretariat informs the scholarship winners to a partner master degree program soon after approval.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S<\/strong><b>cholarship Benefits<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The JJ\/WBGSP scholarship provides the recipient with the following benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip;<\/li>\n<li>Tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance usually obtained through the university.<\/li>\n<li>A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books. The amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note all JJ\/WBGSP scholarships cover the duration of the graduate program or two years, whichever is less.<\/p>\n<p>The JJ\/WBGSP scholarship does not cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>VISA application(s) costs<\/li>\n<li>Expenses to bring and\/or support a scholar\u2019s family members;<\/li>\n<li>Extra-curricular courses or training;<\/li>\n<li>Language training not provided by the graduate program;<\/li>\n<li>Additional travel during the course of the study program;<\/li>\n<li>Expenses related to research, supplementary educational materials, field trips, participation in workshops\/seminars, or internships; or<\/li>\n<li>Educational equipment such as computers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information, visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/programs\/scholarships#3\">http:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/programs\/scholarships#3<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0 The JJ\/WBGSP scholarship may only supplement, and does not duplicate, any other source of financial support\/fellowship you might have.
