UN Women \u2013 In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization\u2019s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment.<\/p>\n

\nThe FAO, UN Women and WFP, with support of the European Union, are collaborating on a three-year joint project: Restoring and promoting sustainable agriculture based livelihoods for food security, employment and nutrition improvement in Borno State. The project will seek to build the resilience of conflict affected people and public-sector institutions in Borno State, emphasising a gender responsive and environment-friendly approach by working to achieve two broad objectives:<\/p>\n\n
