It is a member of the United Nations Development Group and was renamed the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is recruiting to fill the position below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Intern \u2013 Drug Control and Crime Prevention, I (Temporary Job Opening)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Job Opening Number:<\/strong> 18-Drug Control and Crime Prevent-UNODC-106992-J- (A)<br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Abuja<br \/>\n<strong>Job Code Title:<\/strong> Intern \u2013 Drug Control and Crime Prevention<br \/>\n<strong>Department\/Office:<\/strong> United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime<br \/>\n<strong>United Nations Core Values:<\/strong> Integrity, Professionalism, Respect for Diversity<strong><br \/>\nOrg. Setting and Reporting<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) of UNODC provides support to develop and strengthen the capacity of states in the Indian Ocean, Horn of Africa and West Africa to respond to the threats posed by maritime crime. The mission of the UNODC GMCP is to promote and facilitate actions against maritime crimes such as piracy, trafficking of illegal substances, smuggling of migrants, and several other threats to security.<\/li>\n<li>The Internship Programme aims at providing opportunity to acquire practical professional experience through direct exposure to UNODC\u2019s work, in the fields of drugs and crime, more specifically related to the maritime sphere.<\/li>\n<li>The offered internships are unpaid and for duration ranging from 3 to 6 months. Interns are required to work full-time (40 hours) during the office hours. Time is allowed for outside research work and interviews.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assisting in organizing, implementing and monitoring the relevant programme strategies and activities:<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in organizing and preparing a variety of outputs, such as background papers, mission reports, analyses, briefings, presentations, enforcement strategies, policy proposals and documents, manuals, tool kits, guides, etc.;<\/li>\n<li>Aiding in the formulation of work plans and other organizational management tools necessary for programme planning and monitoring;<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in the preparation of programme\/project development and assessment missions conducted for relevant programming;<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in the development of technical assistance programmes;<\/li>\n<li>Carrying out other duties as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Languages and Experience<br \/>\n<\/strong>Education:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:\n<ul>\n<li>Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);<\/li>\n<li>Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor\u2019s level or equivalent); or<\/li>\n<li>Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year period of graduation (Official proof from the university in support of one of the above options has to be attached to the Inspira application).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The candidate should also:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be computer literate in standard software applications<\/li>\n<li>Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter, and<\/li>\n<li>Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Work Experience:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Internship Programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Languages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internships advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French an asset. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Competencies<\/strong><br \/>\nProfessionalism:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shows pride in work and in achievements.
