Avocats Sans Fronti\u00e8res France use all the means available and can bring complaints before domestic and international institutions, and before judicial and non-judicial institutions, it can also intervene before them, including through civil actions before competent jurisdictions. We are recruiting to fill the positions below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job Title:\u00a0Support Lawyer<br \/>\nLocation:<\/strong>\u00a0Kaduna, Lagos and Enugu<strong><br \/>\nASF France mission in Nigeria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Active in Nigeria for more than a decade, ASF France is currently implementing human rights project on promoting international human rights standards on anti-torture and death penalty issues. Within the context of these projects, ASF France and its partners provide free legal assistance, conduct trainings and organize awareness and sensitization activities.<\/li>\n<li>As part of its SAFE project: \u201cStrengthening the national actors\u2019 capacities and Advocating For Ending serious human rights violations in Nigeria\u201d, Avocats Sans Fronti\u00e8res France is seeking to employ a Support Lawyer in Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos Nigeria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>With legal, technical and financial support from ASF France, the support lawyer will provide free legal assistance to victims of torture, ill-treatment, arbitrary detention and extra-judicial killings and their families in Kaduna state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Establish the contact with the prison(s) and get the permits to visit them.<\/li>\n<li>Prison visits to interview clients, to identify the victims\u2019 needs and to identify cases within the scope of the project.<\/li>\n<li>Document and obtain all necessary details on cases within the scope of the project for petitions before national and international bodies.<\/li>\n<li>Use pre-established tools and reporting methods for case documentation and monitoring;<\/li>\n<li>Case monitoring by weekly reports, phone contact and emails;<\/li>\n<li>Monthly visits to stakeholders to promote interactions between judicial actors and ASF France;<\/li>\n<li>Preparation of high level meetings and agenda for the Project Manager\u2019s field visit and mission to the state;<\/li>\n<li>Preparation for logistics for trainings, roundtables, advocacy meetings and other project activities when scheduled within the state.<\/li>\n<li>Monitor and litigate cases of victims of torture, ill-treatment, arbitrary detention and extra-judicial killings and their families.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure an individual follow-up of approved cases and carry out all the proceedings for the defence of the victims: prepare and file appropriate applications before the Court, be present at the hearings, and obtain judgements in all project related cases etc.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain contact with victims and families of victims during and after conclusion of cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Profile and Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum of 7 years proven experience in litigation and active private legal practise.<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in human rights litigation and rights enforcement mechanisms.<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in prisons visit and interviews.<\/li>\n<li>Availability and\u00a0 strong commitment to handling cases to logical conclusions<\/li>\n<li>Ability to secure and organize high level meetings within the state.<\/li>\n<li>Availability and ability to organise all logistics needs of the project in the state including organisation of trainings and roundtables.<\/li>\n<li>Involvement in justice sector reform in the state.<\/li>\n<li>Possess strong legal reporting skills<\/li>\n<li>Interest and passion for human rights law issues<\/li>\n<li>Strong commitment to pro bono activities<\/li>\n<li>Must be part of the NBA pro bono legal aid program in the state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Conditions and Working Context<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Service contract of 12 months renewable with a 3 months\u2019 probation period.<\/li>\n<li>Conditions in conformity with the sector<\/li>\n<li>Expected trips to Abuja<\/li>\n<li>Will be part of a Franco-Nigerian legal team<\/li>\n<li>Work under the supervision of the Project manager in charge of the Legal aid activity in Abuja.<\/li>\n<li>Must report to its institution (NBA), to the ASF France office in Abuja and to ASF legal team in France.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nHow to Apply<\/strong><br \/>\nInterested and qualified candidates should send their CV and Cover Letter to:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:office.nigeria@avocatssansfrontieres-france.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>office.nigeria@avocatssansfrontieres-france.org<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Kindly indicate the job position and location eg: \u2018Application- SAFE Support Lawyer- Kaduna\u2019 in the subject of the email, applications not so stated will not be reviewed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>19th April, 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Avocats Sans Frontieres France (Lawyers Without Borders France or ASF France) is a French NGO established under the French law on organisations of July 1st, 1901.
