FEWS NET collaborates with international, regional and national partners to provide timely and rigorous early warning and analysis of potential, emerging, and\/or evolving food security issues in order to inform decisions and guide response.<\/p>\n<p>Chemonics International Inc., a leading international consulting firm based in Washington, DC, has been contracted by USAID to manage FEWS NET\u2019s technical and field activities. Chemonics seeks applications from qualified and experienced Nigeria professionals to fill one full-time Food Security Specialist (FSS) position in Abuja, Nigeria. Chemonics seeks to engage the FSS for an initial contract to last up through December 31, 2019, with the possibility of an extension. The FSS will work closely with the FEWS NET country, regional, and U.S. teams to support the following activities in Nigiera:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Efficient, focused food security monitoring, data collection, assessment, and early warning analysis;<\/li>\n<li>Effective communication of early warning analysis to partners and decision-makers through contributions<br \/>\nto high quality reports and participation in briefings and formal and informal meetings;<\/li>\n<li>Close collaboration with key network partners, including those with a more diffuse field presence, such as<br \/>\nhost-government counterparts, United Nations agencies (e.g., WFP, FAO, and UNICEF), and regional and<br \/>\nlocal non-governmental organizations, among others;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Network development through capacity strengthening with respect to FEWS NET\u2019s tools and analysis.<br \/>\nMinimum qualifications for the Nigeria FSS position include:<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0An advanced university degree in a discipline relevant to the work of FEWS NET, such as agricultural<br \/>\neconomics, agronomy, nutrition, climatology, anthropology, or social geography. Significant, directly<br \/>\nrelated professional experience can substitute for education experience.<\/li>\n<li>At least two years of relevant experience in early warning\/food security information systems, food<br \/>\nsecurity analysis, or other related field;<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local languages is an advantage;<\/li>\n<li>Strong spoken and written communication skills;<\/li>\n<li>Excellent computer skills; GIS applications and mapping skills are an advantage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria FSS position will remain open for applications through July 11, 2019.
