COMPANY OVERVIEW: Tomato Jos Farming and Processing Limited (TJFPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tomato Jos Incorporated, focuses on year-round crop cultivation of tomatoes, maize, soya, wheat, and other crops, as well as food processing and value addition for the Nigerian and West African markets. Our company request for a suitable applicant for the position stated bellow:

Position Title: Processing Plant Engineering Manager
Expected Start Date: 3rd August 2020.
Position Grade Level: Grade level 5, Step 4
Pay Band: B
Remuneration (Gross): Negotiable (with communication allowance, pension, and health insurance)
Expected Work Hour: Minimum of 56 hours a week
Direct Reports: Deputy and Assistant engineering managers, supervisors, and operators.
Direct Internal Customers: TJ maintenance team, The contracted installation crew, Processing team, Finance team, HR team, executive management team, etc.
External Customers: All Relevant Government Agencies, Equipment Manufactural, Contractors, etc.

Role’s Mission: To manage and lead a multi-disciplined Engineering team, in order to achieve excellence in safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping, cost management, Machine, tools and asset management, zero fatal incident within the budgeted resources and time.

Role Goals
Short Term: To ensure a clear tomato processing plant layout, for effectiveness and efficiency timeline and budget, and to work with the GM Processing on installation and calibration of machines and tools, drive the plant setup project forward, so that Tomato Jos can commission the processing facility and conduct a pilot production run, latest first week of January. Ability to support HR in sourcing for technical team members.

Long Term: To manage and lead a multi-disciplined Engineering team, in order to achieve excellence in health, safety, and environment, product quality, productivity, housekeeping, cost management, sustainable machine efficiency, and asset management, zero fatal incident within the budgeted resources and time.

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • Minimum of BSc/HND in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical engineering and any other related courses.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in FMCG manufacturing environment (special attention on Tomato, oil, sugar, and or starch base production,) of which at least 5 years must be at a Managerial level.
  • Previous knowledge of packaging machine operation and tubular heat exchanger will be a clear advantage.
  • Vast knowledge in HSE, Microsoft suits, intranet, google sheet, and general
    computer appreciation.
  • A critical thinker and a solution provider.
  • Ability to speak Hausa and English fluently is an added advantage.
  • Staminal to work round the clock during peak of the project.

Key Performance Indicator: Zero fatality from production activity.

Main Responsibilities: To direct and maintain high level of safety and 5S housekeeping awareness (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain) through 100% employee participation and the development of sound safety procedures programs and maintenance of good working conditions, adherence to Organisation’ and Legal Safety rules and regulations.

Key Result Area: Quality

Key Performance Indicator: Zero deviation from set quality standard.

Main Responsibilities: To ensure that quality culture is adopted, implemented, and enforced. That quality systems and procedures are adhered to and compliance is achieved by the shift teams. Ensuring machines and tools are calibrated to set quality standard and providing action plans to sustaining quality standard all through production process.

Key Result Area: Productivity

Key Performance Indicator: Zero deviation/variance from quantity set standard.

Main Responsibilities: Manage and program machine and tools to ensure optimum performance in achieving targets and larger processing objectives; in the areas of waste, output, machine delay/efficiency and reliability. Continual process optimization to achieve the correct rate of operation quantity, waste, delay, and volume without compromising safety and quality. Planning, Control and continuously optimize all product output, ensuring they are always performed using good run settings and best practices.

Key Result Area: Technical (Engineering) Development

Key Performance Indicator: Zero machine down time.

Main Responsibilities: Manage the inspection and replacing of all wearing parts in accordance with the manufacturer instruction manual, with reference to production schedules. Assist in providing technical advice with the planning, laying out and set up of the machine for all products and process trials. Provide technical information to the maintenance teams detailing engineering SOPs for planned and reactive maintenance. Development of the team’s technical knowledge on an ongoing basis through one on one coaching and employee engagements. Adhere and implement best practices on the machine.

Key Result Area: Human Resources

Key Performance Indicator: Continuous and progressive improvement in Team Coaching and Mentorship

Main Responsibilities: Provide coaching and mentorship for teams and individual employees. Identifies training needs and arranges on-the-job training, and the development of subordinates. Ensures that discipline is always maintained. Maintain active relationship with the HR team to manage HR matters.

Other Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and repairs of the production machine, equipment & tools.
  • To frequently liaise with the general production manager on maintenance and repairs activities on the production floor.
  • To continuously improve the performance of all machines and equipment by way of reduction of production expenses.
  • To plan for the various maintenance schedules (Preventive maintenance) of all equipment based on the anticipated and planned production.
  • To continuously carryout routine checks on all production machines and ensure they are in good working conditions.
  • To frequently liaise with the general manager on calibration of all the measuring and weighing equipment.

Role Location

TJ processing factory is located within the Farm premises at plot 1, Tomato Jos Road, off old Jos road, Km 11 Kangimi Village, Igabi LGA, Kaduna, Nigeria. Role holder must be willing to relocate to this environment. Also note that this role could involve traveling which TJ will be responsible for all expenses.
