We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Legal Officer
Location: 
Lagos

Job Purpose

  • To meet the company’s objectives, by executing all legal activities as required by the company.

Organisational Relationships:

  • Reports To: Chief Legal Officer
  • Direct Reports: N/A

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-house investigations, witness selection and compile documentary evidence to assist external solicitors in their defence/prosecution of cases.
  • Review and verify fee notes from external solicitors and process same for payment.
  • Investigate legal claims/complaints against the Company and prepare the appropriate response
  • Liaise with the office of the Company Secretary regarding company secretarial needs of the Company.
  • Conduct Legal due diligence checks and searches as required by the Company.
  • Manage the Company’s legal relations with government departments/agencies and regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor all existing and emerging laws/regulations relevant to the Company’s business
  • Provide legal support to business units of the Company in negotiations with customers and vendors and ensure conformance with internal contracting requirements and risk mitigation requirements.
  • Undertake legal and commercial risk evaluation and advisory in respect of all transactions and general corporate compliance of the Company.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Chief Legal Officer and Executive Management.
  • Review and draft contractual agreements to ensure that clauses which protect the company’s interests are incorporated therein and such contracts comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Review and assist in the preparation of business proposals; ensuring the legal framework of said proposals is suitable for the Company’s goals.
  • Interpret contracts and legal documentation to user departments to aid their relations with clients and suppliers.
  • Undertake legal research; prepare reports and legal opinions as required.
  • Manage and update the company’s litigation schedule.
  • Manage external solicitors who represent the company in litigation.

  • Ability to take initiative

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of legal requirements and processes
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Law
  • Minimum of 3 years experience and must have been called to the Bar
  • Real Estate experience is a must
  • LLM will be an added advantage
  • Excellent follow through, ability to pay attention to details.
  • High level of professionalism and multitasking.
