Job Title: Health Safety and Environmental Manager
Level: L6 (M3)
Reports To: Engineering Services Manager

Context/Scope:

Guinness Nigeria has an aggressive expansion programme to increase capacity over the next few years requiring investment of multi-million pounds.
This initiative will increase GN’s HSE responsibility and will require concerted efforts of personnel to manage the challenges that will arise there from.
Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager while working proactively with the wider Brewery & Corporate management teams the Manager will drive improved HSE practices

Responsible for creation and management of HSE Budget held within Brewery Engineering Department.

Market Complexity

Sophisticated and highly competitive market with multinational players that require a high level of Health Safety and Environmental expertise that will enable us to have a competitive edge/ protect our brands and image over competition.

Purpose of Role:

Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) professional for the Breweries, with responsibility for the provision of professional, technical and competent advice on Health, Safety and Environment in the workplace to managers, employees and contractors.

Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager the HSE Manager will be responsible for all health, safety and environmental activities on site.

The HSE Manager will work with the wider management team to develop awareness of health, safety and environment legislation on site and to lead proactive activities.

Promote Safety, Health and Environment for all in the Brewery.

Advise and monitor waste minimisation programmes

Top 3-5 Accountabilities:

Driving the License to Operate Initiative

Drive the day-to-day ISO 14001:2004 Compliance

Input HSE KPI, s into the Entropy for management information

· Professionally represent the site at various Government and Industrial forums ensuring that good relations are maintained at all times and site’s interests are protected.

To drive the site compliance of the proposed OHSAS 18801:2007

Qualifications and Experience Required:

B.Sc/HND in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with 3 years experience in Health Safety and Environment management.

Or OND qualification in mechanical/Electrical Sciences with a minimum of 10 years working experience in a manufacturing industry some of which must be in Safety and/or Environment role.

Good interpersonal skilled.

Specialist qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, and 3 years experience as a registered safety practitioner.

Broad knowledge of engineering / industrial manufacturing systems and practices is a prerequisite.

Analytical ability: Needs to be analytic to be able to calculate HSE KPI’s

Ability to understand the workings of a vast range of equipment from plant and equipment to hi-tech analytical equipment, so as to assess the risks involved.

Experience of FCMG activities, its systems and its personnel.

Barriers to Success in Role:

Inability to influence broadly across the sophisticated customer (internal & external) base.

Inability to make connections across a broad agenda.
